Dear fellow Chutzpanim,
Everyone has their favorite foods from the old country that they miss, and this comrade really loves pizza. Not just regular, marginally unhealthy American pizza, but that disgustingly obesity-inducing Chicago-style chunk of bread/cheese/meat suet-like conglomerate that makes your heart really ache for the motherland. Unfortunately in Medinat, not only does the general Kosher-ness prevent the meat-cheese glory that we all love, but also the cheese that they sell is generally very poor.
Another thing that the Israelis have yet to embrace, as much as us lazy Yanks, is the ready-made frozen food. It's available, but always of pretty low quality. Here's an image of the box-advert vs. reality:
And the instructions are all in Hebrew, so I had to guestimate the length of cooking, which resulted in this brown destroyed conglomerate:

Obviously, it wasn't the greatest pizza I've ever had, but what do you expect from frozen food anyways?
In general food can be pretty expensive in Tel Aviv, especially to go out. A typical meal going out is > 40 ILS (~12 USD depending on the exchange rate, which is pretty low now due to the recent violence). A drink is also expensive, eg 26 ILS for a beer, 20 ILS for a soda.
This frozen pizza was 20 ILS in the grocery store, a pretty good deal.
Stay Chutzpan!
